Did you know Brussels now has its own local currency? It’s called eco-iris … and comes with a twist.

I’ve (finally) updated tebiki’s page on Green Energy suppliers in Brussels. Greenpeace have updated their ranking of electricity suppliers in the country … and guess what? Electrabel still gets a miserable grade! Your best bets in Brussels are Lampiris and Belpower.
Good news is that it’s getting even easier to switch to a greener supplier: Switch to Green brings hundreds of households together to bring prices down and ease the process altogether.
No more excuses for sticking with the bad guys!
I’ve added yet another Veggie Box delivery service to our page. The guys at l’Heureux Nouveau deliver their boxes by bike!
I’ve added Credal, Hefboom and Eltys to our ethical finance list in Belgium! They are much smarter about what they do with your money than conventional banks … :-)
The guys at Make Sense rock the house! Nothing less.
They make social innovation visible, fun and efficient by bringing people together to brainstorm on specific challenges during their famous “Hold-ups”.
They’ve established groups all over the world… and they’re now in Brussels :-) and in English! Join the local group to receive updates on the Hold-ups and Sense-drinks that are coming-up.
The holiday season in Belgium is particularly magic for people like me … once a year we get to indulge in eating unmentionable quantities of chocolate, and in particular the world-famous Belgian Pralines.
While the craving for chocolate is getting stronger as the season approaches, I can’t live with the thought of having unpaid, school-aged children working hard across plantations in western Africa to supply me with the healthy dose of chocolate I demand… the quest to find Fair Trade Pralines in Brussels was on. It turned out to be a rather easy one! Continue reading
Urban farming is booming in Brussels (check out this great Urban Ecology project)! Want to get involved? Potagersurbains.be makes it easier to find community gardens close to where you live.
The site is in French and Dutch … but you should be able to navigate around the map pretty easily!

Figuring out how to get from point A to point B in Brussels isn’t always easy, especially when you’re cycling. The hills and small streets are only part of the fun … missing cycling lanes and inadequate infrastructure can quickly turn a trip across town into a (near) nightmare.
Good news is it doesn’t have to be that way!

A while back I published a small list of Green Key Certified accommodations … the list was surprisingly small.
Good news! More and more locations around town are changing the way they do business. You’ll find the complete list of Green Key and Eco-Dynamic Enterprise certified (a local certification scheme) accommodations on the Visit Brussels web site.
