Cycling innovation in Brussels: 2 new traffic signs

Brussels isn’t known as a cycling friendly city… Need conviction? Watch this great short movie, or better still hop on and give cycling a try in the city.

Yet, things are moving forward! You might have seen these two new traffic signs at certain strategic locations around town.

B22 and B23

They might be ugly (is that a bike?) … they’re nonetheless a welcome addition to our city landscape. Traffic signs B22 and B23 allow you to either go straight or make a right even if the traffic light is red!

I’ll brush over the typically Belgian affair that has surrounded these signs … with politicians fighting around their very legality.

The sign have been setup at ten locations (especially along Rue de la Loi) until september, at which point authorities will decide to either extend the plan or scrap it all together.
